CHAPEL HILL — The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released the brackets for the football state playoffs Saturday.

Currituck, John A. Holmes and Northeastern earned bids into the state playoffs.

After playoff eligible teams are selected, the classes are subdivided by AA (big) and A (small).

Average Daily Membership (ADM) numbers are used to determine school population.

The schools with the largest ADM play in the AA tournament, while the remaining schools play in the A tournament

Northeastern (10-0), which won the Northeastern Coastal Conference for the sixth consecutive season, is the No. 1 seed in the Class 2A East Region and will host No. 16 seed Fairmont (5-6) in the first round.

Fairmont finished fifth in the Class 1A/​2A Three Rivers Conference this fall.

Currituck (7-4) earned a bid into the Class 2AA state playoffs as the No. 10 seed in the East Region and will face No. 5 seed Croatan (5-5) in the first round.

Croatan finished tied for second in the Coastal 8 Conference. The Coastal 8 is a split 1A/​2A conference.

The Knights finished third in the Northeastern Coastal Conference this fall.

Edenton (10-1), winners of the Albemarle Athletic Conference for the second consecutive season, earned the No. 3 seed in the 1AA East Region and will have a bye into the second round.

The Aces will face the winner of the Hobbton (5-6) at East Carteret (7-4) first round game in the second round.

Other regional teams earning state playoff berths include in the 2AA East, No. 5 Hertford County (5-5) hosting No. 12 Bunn (5-5), No. 14 First Flight (5-6) traveling to No. 3 North Davidson; Class 2A East No. 11 Bertie (5-5) heads to No. 6 Southwest Onslow (9-2).

In Class 1AA No. 10 seed Manteo (6-5) faces No. 7 Williamston-Riverside (8-3), while in the 1A East No. 3 seed Gates (9-2) earns a bye into the second round, while Washington County (3-7) is the No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 seed Weldon (6-4) in the first round.

The first round of the state playoffs is set to begin Friday, Nov. 16.
