RALEIGH — The Chowan men's basketball team concluded their preseason with an exhibition at North Carolina State on Monday evening falling to the Wolfpack 111-62 at PNC Arena.
Freshman Ja'Darien Wade led the Hawks with 17 points and seven rebounds. Demetrius Sanders tallied 16 points and seven boards.
Gus Rowland posted nine points and seven assists. The Hawks shot 57.7 percent in the opening half.
Chowan would lead NC State for all of 24 seconds in the contest as Gus Rowland gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead converting 1-2 from the charity stripe.
The Wolfpack went on a 12-0 run before Jordan Marshall converted the three-point play. Gus Rowland and Trejvon McFail tallied layups before the media timeout as the Hawks trailed 22-8.
N.C. State would double up the Hawks, 28-14, following buckets by Gus Rowland and Keon Claiborne.
Both teams would swap five points as Ja'Darien Wade posted a fastbreak layup on an assist by Gus Rowland and Timothy Bing knocked down a three.
Demetrius Sanders notched the first dunk of the young season, while Ja'Darien Wade tallied a bucket to close the gap to 40-23.
Demetrius Sanders scored seven of the next nine points for the Hawks as Chowan trailed 61-35 at the half.
Demetrius Sanders would open the scoring in the second half with a layup off a pass from Gus Rowland. Rowland and Timothy Bing tallied a pair of baskets along with a two from the stripe by Brandon Mayhan.
N.C. State opened up the contest to 73-44 with 15:21 remaining in the contest. Demetrius Sanders tallied a layup before the media timeout as the Wolfpack's lead ballooned to 81-46.
Ja'Darien Wade posted a bucket in the paint on the putback to end the Wolfpack run.
Xavier Young tallied a layup with under three minutes to play on a fastbreak pass by Gus Rowland.
Ja'Darien Wade finished the scoring with a three-point play.
Chowan opens the season on Monday, November 12 as the Hawks host Piedmont International at 7:30 p.m.
The Mid-Atlantic Christian women’s volleyball team fell to Bryant & Stratton College (Va.) 18-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 Monday evening at MACU.
The match was the scheduled regular-season finale for the host Lady Mustangs.
