HERTFORD — The Perquimans volleyball team is off to another solid start to a season.
The Lady Pirates defeated Northeastern 25-9, 25-6, 25-11 on Thursday evening at home.
Perquimans (3-0) won all three matches this week in three sets.
“I am proud of the way we started our first week of the season. We were able to put into play a lot the things we have been working on,” Perquimans volleyball coach Kristie Thach said. “I thought that we got better each night and several people contributed with excellent play offensively and defensively.”
Northeastern (0-1) travels to Gatesville to take on Gates on Monday.
Camden def. Pasquotank 25-14, 25-14, 25-18: Camden defeated Pasquotank on Thursday evening at Pasquotank.
Both teams return to action on Monday as Camden (2-0) hosts Currituck, while Pasquotank (0-3) hosts Washington County.
Currituck Volleyball: The Lady Knights won the Denbigh (Va.) Jamboree on Thursday.
Currituck defeated Great Bridge (Va.), Denbigh (Va.) and Bayside (Va.).
In the tournament final, Currituck defeated Bruton (Va.) 25-12, 25-18.
The Lady Knights open their regular season at Camden on Monday.
Washington 5, Currituck 4: Washington edged Currituck in the Lady Knights season opener at Currituck on Thursday.
Heather Hennessey, Grace Waters, and Lilly Nekervis all won their singles matches in straight sets for Currituck.
Nekervis teamed with Samantha Phillips for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
“This was a really fine high school tennis match, one that either team could have won,” commented Currituck coach Vic Ramsey. “We played very well at times, and got some much needed experience against a good team.” Currituck will host Lawrence Academy on Tuesday.
