ROANOKE, Va. — The Elizabeth City State football team had two players named to the preseason all-CIAA football team on Wednesday.

ECSU senior linebacker Vincent Thomas and senior tight end Carlton Evans earned the honors from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

The CIAA’s coaches and sports information directors selected the preseason all-CIAA team.

Thomas posted 83 tackles last season, while Evans tallied 232 receiving yards during the 2017 season.

Evans along with senior linebacker Miacah Cooper and head coach Anthony Jones are expected to attend the 2018 CIAA Football Media Day at the Sheraton Hotel in Roanoke, Virginia today.


Along with the all-CIAA team, the league released its predicted order of finish for the 2018 season.

ECSU was selected to finish ninth out of 12 teams in the conference.

In the CIAA Northern Division, the Vikings were selected to finish fifth out of six teams in the division.

Lincoln (Pa.) was picked to finish last in the division.

Bowie State is predicted to win the division.

Virginia State, which won the CIAA championship last fall, was selected second, Virginia Union was third and Chowan was predicted to finish fourth in the division.

Fayetteville State, the defending CIAA Southern Division champion, was predicted to win the CIAA Southern Division title again this fall.

Winston-Salem State was picked second, Saint Augustine’s third, Shaw was fourth, Johnson C. Smith was fifth and Livingstone was sixth in the division.
