NEW KENT, Va. — The Elizabeth City State men’s golf team is in third place after the first day of the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship tournament at The Club at Viniterra on Thursday.

Livingstone College leads the eight-team field with a 29-over-par 317, Virginia Union is second with a 33 over par 321.

ECSU is 43 over par 331, Fayetteville State is fourth at 46 over par 334.

Saint Augustine's is fifth with a 48 over par 336, Johnson C. Smith is seventh at 53 over par 341 and Virginia State is eighth with an 87 over par 375.

ECSU senior Tyler Futrell is second overall in the individual competition as he posted a 3-over par 75 during the first round.

He trails Isaiah Shaw from Fayetteville State, who posted a 2-over par 74 in his opening round.

Saint Augustine's Sam Cudjoe, Virginia Union's Paul Meints and Livingstone's Phillip Harrison are tied for third after all posting 4-over par 76 rounds on Thursday.

ECSU's Will Fallon and Alex O'Conner are both tied for 17th place with rounds of 13-over par 85.

Fellow Viking Taylor Guarracino is tied for 19th place with six other golfers after posting a 14-over par 86.

Derek Beach rounds out the ECSU lineup in 39th place with a 62-over par 134.

The course on Day 1 was a par 72 that measures 6,700 yards.

The course during the finale today is expected to remain the same for par, but lengthen to 6,753 yards.
