BARCO — The Northeastern boys tennis team defeated Currituck 6-3 on Thursday afternoon at Currituck County High School.

With the victory, Northeastern (8-0, 4-0 Northeastern Coastal Conference) secured an undefeated regular season record in league play.

NHS also clinched the league's regular season championship on March 29 in a win against First Flight.

The Eagles earned wins in singles from No. 4 David Kleinschuster (6-4, 4-6, 10-6), No. 5 Alex Kockler (6-2, 6-1) and No. 6 Darius Walton (6-0, 6-3).

Northeastern coach April Rowe Turner noted that she was pleased with her Nos. 4-6 singles, especially for Kleinschuster who won a third set tiebreaker.

Currituck (1-6, 0-4 NCC) earned victories in singles from No. 1 Kaleb Kight (6-3, 6-3), No. 2 Josh Crisell (6-1, 6-1) and No. 3 Hunter Goins (6-4, 6-4).

The Northeastern coach noted she was pleased with the improvement her Nos. 1-3 singles showed against the Knights in comparison to the first meeting between the teams last month.

NHS swept the doubles competition as No. 1 duo Taylor Carter and LP Hornthal (10-8) and No. 3 Kockler and Walton 10-4 were victorious.

The No. 2 double match was a win for Northeastern's Kleinschuster and Michael Carter (6-3) because of an injury to a Currituck player cut the match short.

GIRLS SOCCER

Camden 1, John A. Holmes 0: The Lady Bruins held on for the Albemarle Athletic Conference win at Edenton on Thursday.

Edenton (3-6-1, 1-2-0 AAC) travels to Camden Community Park to face the Lady Bruins again on Monday.

Landstown (Va.) 3, Currituck 1: The Lady Knights (10-3-0) had their three match winning steak snapped at Landstown in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Thursday.

Currituck returns to action on Monday at Pasquotank.

BOYS GOLF

Currituck's Nicholas Lapham posted another low medalist round on Thursday afternoon at The Sound Golf Links at Albemarle Plantation in Hertford.

Lapham shot a 42 on nine holes. He tied Hertford County's Grayson Waterfield who also posted a 42 on nine holes.

John A. Holmes' Kolby Jones finished third with a 50, Currituck's Nathan Lapham was fourth with a 51.

Northeastern's Connor Stevenson was tied for fifth with a 53.

Hertford County won the team competition with a 201, Manteo was second with a 223, Edenton was third with a 226 and Perquimans was fourth with a 234.

BASEBALL

Albemarle School 16, Terra Ceia Christian 5: The Colts scored 12 runs in the third inning to secure the victory in six innings on Thursday at Terra Ceia Christian.

Tanner Simpson, a sophomore, went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBIs for Albemarle School.

Cole Langley, an eighth grader, went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Brenner Ranhorn, a sophomore, went 2-for-4 with a double two runs scored and two RBIs, Luke Gray, a sophomore, had a hit with an RBI and three runs scored for the Colts.

Albemarle School's Trent Sawyer, a seventh grader, pitched five innings, gave up five hits, three earned runs and registered seven strikeouts.

Logan Dunn, a freshman, pitched an inning and posted three strikeouts for the Colts.

SOFTBALL

Currituck 14, Suffolk Christian Academy (Va.) 5: Currituck (7-3) extended its winning streak to seven consecutive games with the win at Suffolk Christian on Thursday.

Greenbrier Christian Academy (Va.) 12, Perquimans 2: The Lady Gators secured the win at Perquimans County High School on Thursday.

Perquimans (11-5) was held to three hits in the contest.

Senior McCrae Knapp went 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Macy Denson had a hit with a run scored for Perquimans.

McKayle Knapp was credited with an RBI for the Lady Pirates.

Faith Kitchen led Greenbrier Christian with two hits, a run scored and three RBIs.
