Mustangs claim men's Bible College NIT title

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Mid-Atlantic Christian men’s basketball team won the Bible College NIT championship by defeating host Trinity Baptist College 75-54 on Saturday afternoon at Trinity Baptist.

With the win, the Mustangs (11-19) secured the tournament crown for the first time in program history.

Grayson Tejada led MACU with a team-high 19 points, while Dixon Ogwo finished with a double-double in the win.

Ogwo, a senior, scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the game.

Tyler Hendrix and Alex Stanley also finished in double figures for the Mustangs with 10 points each.

MACU ends the 2017-2018 season on a four-game winning streak.

On Friday night, the Mid-Atlantic Christian women’s basketball team lost 94-55 to Trinity College of Florida in the women’s Bible College NIT championship game.

The Lady Mustangs end their season with a 9-20 overall record.

SOFTBALL

North Carolina-Pembroke 18, Elizabeth City State 2: The Lady Vikings (0-7) lost the first game of a doubleheader against the Braves in five innings on Saturday afternoon at ECSU.

The Lady Vikings trailed 18-0 after the top of the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the frame, ECSU scored on a D'Asya Wilson solo home run.

Wilson went 2-for-2 in the contest.

ECSU added its final run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by former John A. Holmes player Alyssa Griffin.

Jamie Johnson, Taylor Gerhart and Jessica Auld recorded three RBIs each in the win for the Braves (13-6).

Pitcher Malerie Leviner went three innings and posted six strikeouts in the circle for the win.

North Carolina-Pembroke 24, Elizabeth City State 4: UNCP (14-6) recorded 19 hits in the contest to complete the two-game sweep of the Lady Vikings in Game 2 in five innings.

D'Asya Wilson connected on a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning for ECSU (0-8).

Wilson had two of ECSU’s three hits in the game.

ECSU trailed 8-0 after 1 1/2 innings, but the Lady Vikings scored in the bottom of the second on an error.

Jessica Auld went 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs in the win for the Braves.

ECSU hosts Bluefield College on Wednesday.
