Police probe Ahoskie man's shooting-related death in EC

El­iz­a­beth City po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the shoot­ing death of a Hert­ford County man early Thurs­day as a homi­cide.

Rocky Lee Bai­ley Jr., 34, of Apt. 2, the 800 block of Gar­rett Street, Ahoskie, died at Sen­tara Nor­folk Gen­eral Hospi­tal in Nor­folk, Vir­ginia, af­ter he was shot in El­iz­a­beth City, po­lice spokes­woman Bar­bara Mor­gan said in a press re­lease.

Ac­cord­ing to Mor­gan, po­lice re­sponded to a re­port of a shoot­ing in the 200 block of Roanoke Av­enue about 6:02 a.m. When of­fi­cers ar­rived, they found Bai­ley, who had suf­fered a gun­shot wound to the chest.

Bai­ley was trans­ported first to Sen­tara Albe­marle Med­i­cal Cen­ter, then flown by Nightin­gale he­li­copter to the Nor­folk hos­pi­tal, where he was pro­nounced dead a short time later, Mor­gan said.

Mor­gan, citing the ongoing police investigation, de­clined to say if po­lice know why Bai­ley was in El­iz­a­beth City or if investigators have any sus­pects in his shoot­ing.
