HERTFORD — A portion of Creek Drive in Perquimans County will be closed to traffic starting July 9 so the N.C. Department of Transportation can replace a bridge at Brights Mill Creek.
A $1.9 million contract to replace the bridge over the creek was awarded to T.A. Loving of Goldsboro in May. Work on the new bridge, which will be about a foot higher off Brights Mill Creek, is expected to be complete by Nov. 30, according to N.C. DOT engineer Randy Midgett.
DOT wants to complete the bridge’s replacement this summer because construction on the replacement Hertford’s S-Bridge is slated to start next summer.
The current S-Bridge crossing the Perquimans River and linking Hertford and Winfall will be closed to traffic for eight to 10 months starting in September 2020.
