Elizabeth City police are investigating after two people were found shot in the Herrington Road area Tuesday afternoon.
Details about the incident were hard to come by on Wednesday.
In a press release issued Tuesday night, police said they responded to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of Herrington Road around 4:19 p.m.
At the scene, police said they discovered two people who had been shot. Both were transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition, police spokesman Lamont Butts said Tuesday night.
It was not clear if both victims were still at the Elizabeth City hospital on Wednesday.
Butts declined to identify the victims, saying police are “still in the infancy” of their investigation.
Police officials did not respond to repeated requests for an update on the shooting on Wednesday.
In an email late Wednesday afternoon, City Manager Rich Olson said city police would not be releasing “any information at this time due to the sensitive nature of the investigation.”
He said he hoped to release more information about the shooting incident on Thursday.
City police were urging anyone with information about the double shooting to call the department at 335-4321, or the Crime Line at 335-5555.
