An 18-year-old Elizabeth City man has been charged in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins, and charges are pending against a juvenile accused of assisting him.

Jesean Brown, 18, of the 300 block of East Cypress Street, has been charged with 31 counts of felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, one count of felony larceny, and one count of felony possession of stolen goods.

Brown was being held Thursday at Albemarle District Jail in lieu of a $33,000 secured bond.

Charges for the juvenile are currently pending, according to city police.

The charges stem from a report to police about 2:25 a.m. that two people appeared to be trying to break into vehicles in the Cedar Street area.

Officers arrived on the scene and located two suspects who were taken into custody, police said. Further investigation revealed that several vehicles in the area had also been broken into.

The police investigation further revealed that Brown was connected to a rash of reported vehicle break-ins in Elizabeth City that dated from September to this month, including in the West Broad Street, Riverside Drive and Edgewood Drive areas.
