An Elizabeth City man is in stable condition at a Virginia hospital after police say he was shot in the Walker Avenue area early Wednesday.

Eric Spivey, 34, of the 400 block of Crooked Run Road, was being treated Wednesday for non-life threatening injuries at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Judge said.

According to Judge, officers responded at 1:01 a.m. to a report of shots fired in the 1400 block of Walker Avenue. When they arrived, they found Spivey suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his lower right thigh.

Judge said Spivey initially was taken to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center before later being transported to Sentara Norfolk.

Judge didn't release any further information about the incident.
