LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) -- Spencer Howard tossed a three-hit complete game and Jake Scheiner homered and had two hits, as the Lakewood BlueClaws topped the Asheville Tourists 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday.
Howard (5-7) picked up the win after he struck out eight and walked one while allowing one run.
Lakewood started the scoring in the first inning when Scheiner hit a solo home run.
Asheville answered in the top of the next frame when Casey Golden hit a solo home run to tie it up.
The BlueClaws took the lead for good in the sixth when Jhailyn Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Simon Muzziotti.
Lucas Gilbreath (4-5) went six innings, allowing four runs and six hits in the South Atlantic League game. He also struck out one and walked one.
