Christian likes Trump but follows only one Gospel

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

I have to respond to a recent letter that claimed that Christian Evangelicals are treating President Donald Trump’s words as gospel and "abandoning the Gospel of Jesus Christ for Trump’s false gospel."

Hello! Reality check here: There is only one Gospel and only one King of Kings whom Christians follow, and his name is not Donald J. Trump.

If people want to see a messiah complex and a study in narcissism, they need look no further than the last administration. As a matter of fact, it was actor Jamie Fox who referred to former President Barack Obama as " our Lord and savior."

As for the "touting" accusation, history proves that each and every president — or politician for that matter — has vigorously "touted" his accomplishments. This has been going on ever since the invention of politics.

Now, Trump is a success. There is no doubt about that. That success just drives some people up the wall. Sadly, there are many who refuse to give the man credit for the good decisions he has made. This is especially true when it comes to the news media.

Want an example? Trump’s tax cuts have put millions of dollars back into the pockets of hard-working Americans. What is dominating the news is how "cruel" Trump is for the situation at our southern border. Trump also had the courage to actually move our embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. A move — mind you — that was already planned and approved before he took office.

Now, I am a Christian who is very evangelical. I am also a Trump supporter who will gladly and respectfully "tout" his accomplishments.
