The home of $1 tacos on “Taco Tuesday” will soon be significantly larger as Happy Taco relocates to the former Mamasita’s building on Ehringhaus Street.

The Ehringhaus Street structure is currently undergoing renovations to house Happy Taco.

Raul Ambriz, the owner of Happy Taco, said the move should take place no later than the second week of April.

Ambriz said Happy Taco has outgrown its current location.

“We need a bigger building,” Ambriz said. “There is only so much that we can do here, so we took that building that nobody wanted. But we will be there now.”

Happy Taco has been in its current location at 146 E. Rich Blvd. Suite B since September 2017. Ambriz said business has been good at the current site and he is ready to expand the restaurant.

The current Happy Taco location will close once the restaurant moves to the new site, Ambriz said.

Ambriz said he plans to keep the current menu offerings, which have been popular with customers, but also will be able to have an expanded menu with additional food and drink choices at the new location.

The restaurant plans to get an ABC license in order to be able to sell alcoholic beverages at the former Mamasita’s location.

And the larger seating area at the Ehringhaus Street location site will accommodate a larger number of diners, he said.

The building on Ehringhaus Street is more than 5,000 square feet and will have five times the seating area that Happy Taco has at its current location, Ambriz said.

The restaurant has five employees and Ambriz said he’s not yet sure how many employees will be needed at the larger restaurant on Ehrighaus Street.

Mamasita’s, which was located at 512 W. Ehringhaus St., closed in early 2016.
