CAMDEN — Sissy Aydlett has filed for reelection to the Camden County Board of Education.

Aydlett is the first of the incumbent school board members in Camden to file for reelection. Another incumbent, Jason Banks, has said he plans to run but had not yet filed for a seat as of Monday.

Chris Wilson, the other incumbent, has not announced whether he intends to file.

Candidates are seeking the three open seats on the board.

Two challengers have already entered the race. Roger Morgan filed July 3 and Chris Purcell was first out of the gate, filing July 2.

Both Morgan and Purcell are making their first bid for elective office.

Morgan, who was employed by the Camden school district for 19 years, said he believes educators make excellent board members.

Purcell, who with his wife Jennifer owns and operates Firehouse Subs in Elizabeth City, said he is seeking a seat on the board of education because he believes his business background would be a good addition to the board.

The Daily Advance was unable to reach Aydlett for comment Monday.
